This is an rp about a world where demons are the primary inhabitants. Its modeled somewhat on stuff from the NIS strat/rpg series known as Disgaea. In the Demon World of Kaku, demons fight for domination in a never ending conflict. The last Maou or 'demon king' died at the hands of one of his demons, but rather than staying to become the new Maou, the demon took his newfound power and left Kaku. This left no demon capable of ruling over the others. Now, demons fight each other, making alliances and killing others to consume their power. That being said, your average demon just tries to live his life, and they have little interest in who becomes Maou. One out of about every ten demons is born with a high amount of power and ambition. These are the ones who become demon soldiers. Demon soldiers are chaotic by nature, and it is quite natural that as they become stronger they would seek to pull down those above them and take their powers. Though the situation changes constantly, Kaku is currently split between five demon armies led by a single Majin (Demon Lord) each. The situation is unstable at best with those Majin being frequently pulled down and replaced by subordinates who have became powerful by fighting on the front lines. These are the current Majin and their immediate subordinates: Kachef- A huge red-haired human-type demon who carries a claymore (large two-handed sword) and uses fire and air primarily. He is the Majin of Krechia, the northern-most part of part of Kaku. Krechia is almost entirely made up of volcanic mountains, so it is perfect for his style of fighting. He took control just over a decade before the beginning of this story. Yusef- A red-scaled demon dragon who is Kachef's immediate underling. He is something of an exception among the demon soldiers. He is over five thousand years old, and it is thought that he possesses power equal to that of the previous Maou, but he lacks anything resembling ambition or drive. He says the only reason he fights is because its easier than hunting for meals. Lady Mifra- A silver-haired black-eyed Datenshi (fallen angel), she has been the Majin of Kari, the eastern most part of Kaku since the death of the last Maou. She was the last Maou's wife and is widely known to be the strongest of the Majin in terms of raw power. However, she has no interest in the throne apparently, and she has cut her domain off from the rest of Kaku. She is a master of ice and summoning magic, as well as an accomplished healer. Mya- Mifra's daughter, she has her mother's black eyes and silver hair, but her wings are veined and bat-like like those of her father. She is the daughter of the previous Maou, and it is said that if she ever chose to do so, she could probably take the throne. She is a powerful master of fire and earth magic, as well as the magic for binding demons into artifacts like demon swords and magical amulets. Her demon swords are used by all the human-type demons in her mother's army, and she has even made Kachef's claymore. However, she is extremely whimsical and is well-known for traveling throughout the domains joining various armies for reasons that don't even make sense to her mother. She uses a silver orb that can twist into any form she can concieve for the physical side of her fighting. Ashram- A demon who was once a human knight damned to the underworld for a sin that he has never chosen to reveal. He is black-haired with slit-pupiled red eyes. He carries a curved longsword in each hand connected by a thin chain. Rather than using magic, he turned his abilities inward to negate magic. He gathered enormous power by fighting other physical combat reliant demons and taking their power. He is ambitious and often cruel, and he wears black plate armor encrusted with violet runes. That armor was made for him by Mya who neglected to tell him that once he put it on he could never remove it. He very much desires to take her life. He is the Majin of Sougou, the western-most part of Kaku. He has been Majin for three years. The Nameless One- a shadow-type demon whose true form is unknown. He is known as the greatest illusionist and shadow-wielder in all of Kaku. However, the extent of his powers are untested. All anyone knows about him is that his immediate subordinates are so terrified of him that they will not say anything about him. Dalsverdr- Majin of the southern-most part of Kaku, he is a giant demon wolf. His area is known as Aflerdr and it is primarily forest. The animal-type demons worship him as a god, and his area is almost inviolate. He has been Majin for over a thousand years. A single cut violet demon-stone in the center of his forehead is the only adornment he possesses. His fur is dark blue over every inch of his body. He is well-known for the manipulation of living things and for his ability to negate barriers. Magurav- He a fox-type humanoid demon who wields the demon lance known as Shalfherd. He is known for the absolute loyalty he shows Dalsverdr, an anomaly in any demon world. He wields water, wind, and illusion. -The unknown Majin of the central part of Kaku. For the last two-hundred years no one but Mya has gone in or out of this province. Mya refuses to say anything about what she saw there. Numerous attempts at invasion were made but all failed miserably. His subordinates are unknown.

Now to begin... ______________________________________________________________________________
Mya flew through the brimstone-tainted air of Krechia whistling cheerfully as she dodged fireballs coming at her from the ground as well as lava flows and even a few lightning bolts. Her black eyes were filled with that strange joy that always came over her when someone was trying to kill her, Kechef always gives the best receptions. She reached out with her mind and twisted a few of the fireballs around to return to those who sent them. She smiled happily as they desperately put up their barriers to protect them from their own flames. This was the life!
She saw Kechef's black obsidian castle revealed by a parting of the perpetual smog that covered his entire domain and whistled as she viewed the reinforced barrier runes and thousands of demon's forming a barrier against her. I wonder what he thinks I've done to deserve this wonderful reception? It honestly never occured to her that Kechef simply disliked and distrusted her like everyone else. She called flame and pulled her silver orb out from under her black silk shirt. The silver shot elongated and turned into a long spear. The flames surrounded it in a vortex that came to a point at the tip. She came up to the barrier and thrust the spear into the barrier. The barrier flared violently, rapidly changing color, the runes on the walls melting in the heat of the backwash from the clash of the powers. The demons on the wall strained to hold the barrier, but they began bursting into flame and dying while she enjoyed herself thoroughly. More than anything it was the disturbingly dreamy smile on her face that caused the concentration of the defenders to break and the barrier to shatter. It was just too disturbing to see that almost sexual expression on someone attacking a barrier of that strength. The barrier came shattered like glass, and she landed on the balcony of the central tower with a disappointed pout on her beautiful face.
Kechef sat on his black throne with a slightly resigned look on his strong-featured face, "What do you want this time Mya?" He asked irritably. Yusef's bulky form was curled behind the throne, and his gigantic snores continued on uninterrupted by Mya's flashy and rather loud entrance.
She tilted her head to the side, and frowned in concentration, then shrugged, "I forgot."
Kechef's eyes blazed and several nearby works of melted into slag and burned to ashes, "You forgot?! You killed dozens of my vassals, broke my brand new barrier, and destroyed a few small villages with stray fire and you say you forgot why you came?!"
She smiled brightly, "Yup! Your greeting party was so much fun that it just blew my reason for coming right out of my head."
It was times like this when Kechef had a strong suspicion that all those years forging demon artifacts had worn holes in her brain. He put his red-armored hand to his forhead and sighed, "Try to remember. It'll take me weeks to rebuild that barrier and gather enough demons to activate it again, so I would prefer that my time not be wasted."
She thought hard for a few moments then struck her right fist down on her left palm, "Oh yeah! I wanted to tell you something about that sword I made for you! Now what was it again...?"
Several nearby pillars began to melt into slag as she thought.
Her eyes brightened as her memory returned, "Oh, yeah! The rune on the hilt is Vrinna the flame enhancement rune. I forgot to tell you that if you wield the sword while calling fire the flames will be far wilder and stronger, so you should be careful not to slag a mountain range or two by accident."
He looked out the window to his left, "Too late."
"Eh?"
"I already slagged a mountain range."
Sure enough a set of peaks to the east had been entirely melted into slag at some point in the near past, "Whoopsie! Guess I should have told you sooner!" She said brightly before unfurling her black, batlike wings and launching herself from the tower's balcony, "I'll come back to play again real soon!" She said over her shoulder as she flew away.
"Don't ever come back!" He yelled at her, but the wind had already taken her beyond hearing.

Horus meandered through the central section of the world, eliciting hungry stares from wayward demons. He sighed inwardly to himself, to wait at the barrier was annoying in and of itself but the added glares never did any good. How long was it going to take this time? It would happen soon, he was sure of it.
As if on cue a scaled demon sauntered over to him, his hands holding a short rusted sword in his hand. "What is a...human...doing here?" he rasped, his tongue licking the eyes of his reptilian face.
Horus sighed, though it was inevitable and even necessary to suffer these annoyances that didn't make this any more enjoyable. "What I'm doing here is of no importance to you, slither away before you get hurt."
The demon bared his fangs and motioned to his friends to move in behind Horus, "Perhaps you...will make...good meat."
The demons rushed in, snarling with swords drawn. There was an audible whoosh as the air was forced from their lungs. The first demon gaped at Horus, his cloak suddenly shed, revealing vast black feathered wings. "A fallen angel?" he sneered, apparently unimpressed, "You don't look like much."
Horus smiled, "Close. Not bad for one so mentally repressed. I'm the son of one."
The demon charged swinging his sword over his head, over and over, Horus dodging with extreme ease as the demon futilely attacked. In a fluid motion Horus grabbed the sword and twisted it, shattering the sword into fragments. The demon fell on its back, shivering with fear. With no perceptible effort on the part of Horus the demon was suddenly raised into the air, suspended over the ground, his eyes rolling back as he gasped, his air supply slowly reducing itself, his hands clawing the air.
"Spending time with wastrels such as this Horus? I thought you wouldn't lower yourself that far."
Horus took a casual glance at the source of the voice. "Hello Mya. Are you here to tell me something you forgot about the sword you forged for me? Some effect you didn't mention." He pulled back his wings and ruffled them, highlighting the tattooed Ankh below his right eye.
"Well there's the wind rune on the pommel. And the binding charm that you requested."
"Yes..." he drawled, clearly nonplussed
"That's it. You really figured that out? The last one I made caused some major damage. Now what else did I come here for?"
"How would I know that?"
"Oh well. See you later. Want me to clean up this mess?"
"That's alright. I started it."
Horus glanced back at the original demon, now in his death throes. A subconscious thought trickled through his mind as the air tore the crowd to shreds, leveling houses and leaving scars on the cliff side. Black blood spurted through the wounds of the demons, drenching the ground with blood.
Horus looked towards the sky, "Seems like a lovely day for flight." There was a great rush as he took to the sky, his black wings supported by a sudden gust of air.

In their own worlds, demons are not far different from humans. They are driven by ambition and lust for power. The only difference is that the demons see no reason to hold back those desires.
A part of Mya's mind pondered this as she soared through the air over Ashram's territory. It would have surprised most people who had met her that she could think such abstract thoughts, due to her seemingly absent-minded nature, but the truth was that when you were driven almost entirely by two strong desires - the longing for a good fight and a fascination for the creation of powerful artifacts - one tended to have little room in one's memory for comparitively minor concerns. She sometimes lamented her mother's incessant affairs with any demon who caught her interest due to the sheer number of siblings that Mya had garnered in the more than a thousand years since her father's death. Her other siblings constantly competed for Mother's favor and couldn't seem to comprehend that she had no interest in her mother, the throne, or gathering power. Horus was the only one that had ever understood her, and he had made good use of her in the creation of that barrier around his domain. Since it was her favorite brother, she had gladly and lovingly produced the runestones that held the barrier and had only placed a few dozen surprises in the makeup of the barrier. His sword was another matter entirely, however.
Now that she thought about it, using a former Majin's soul to forge a sword was not a particularly wise move even for her. It was just... when she had killed him she had suddenly gotten that urge that came upon her so often and drove her into fits of furious creativity. She had completed the sword and to her dismay found that every time a demon tried to take it up the sword lost their souls to its voracious hunger. Finally, her little brother Horus had snuck into her storehouse where she had stored the blade and come out the next morning, covered in scratches and his clothes soaked in his own blood, carrying the blade. She, in her own slightly absent way, was quite proud of the achievement... even though for the life of her she couldn't remember the abilities she'd forged into the blade.
She knew that she had intended to tell him something about the barrier... but what was it? Oh well, its Horus after all. Whatever it is, I'm sure he can handle it.
She landed at Ashram's castle amid a hailstorm of fireballs and enchanted arrows, blithely ignoring them for the most part while the more awake part of her mind set them astray with small alterations to the air pressure around her. She had very little wind power, but with numerous wind artifacts in her possession it was enhanced to the limit.
When she saw Ashram before her in the beautiful violet-runed black armor she had made for him she squealed delightedly, evading his slashing blades while seemingly not even noticing them to place her arms around his neck in a hug that incidentally pinned his arms to his sides with the not inconsiderable strength held in their deceptively slender length.
Ashram hated her with a passion. For the last year he had been stuck in the armor she had presented to him, unable to remove it no matter how hard he tried. The armor was utterly impenetrable, not even the directed power of his fellow Majin was able to penetrate it, but he very badly missed his harem and rightfully blamed her for forgetting to mention the fact that he would be unable to remove it.
The Nameless One's indistinct form floated in a corner of the room, muffled gurgles that Ashram had always interpreted as laughter coming from it in heaves. The bastard had always found Mya to be amusing.
Ashram's shoulders slumped in resignation and he asked, "What do you want this time?"
Mya backed off and thought for a moment, absently evading an attempt to take her head by the rather stubborn Ashram. "Oh, yeah! Pookie!" She had impulsively named the Nameless One Pookie in a previous visit, and the formless creature seemed to find even that humiliating name quite amusing.
A voice that sounded like a gurgling brook came out from the formless mass of shadows, "Yes Lady Mya?"
"It's your birthday isn't it?"
The shadows' ceaseless roiling stilled, "How did you know that?" The voice of the shadows was suddenly quiet and full of menace. His survival had always been based on others' lack of knowledge.
She brightened, her visage shining in the darkness of the room, she had obviously been waiting for him to ask. She pulled a small amethyst pendant out from under her blouse. The pendant had the cycles of the years for Kaku carved into it in exquisite detail that had obviously taken her a very long time to make. "This thing told me! I got curious after you refused to tell me last time I was here, so I made this to tell me."
It was always difficult to get anything useful in terms of information out of her in the best of times, so he spoke carefully, "Did it tell you anything else dear?"
She looked puzzled, "Why would it tell me anything else? I just made it to tell me when your birthday was."
He felt an immense relief, for though she forgot things, she was a major exception among demons in that she never lied.
She continued where she had left off as if he had never asked her a question, "Happy birthday Pookie!" She pulled out a small square of metallic cloth from under her clothes and floated over to him on a gust of air.
"Thank you, dear child." He was very much considering burying the strange trinket. Mya's gifts always tended to have unexpected effects.
"It makes an endless light if you put it in water. I thought that this place needed a little brightening up." She said brightly.
He was silent, there was just nothing that could be said. The urge to laugh and the urge to smother her in shadows fought with the knowledge that if he did either it was likely she would kill him by accident. "I... thank you for the wonderful gift."
Ashram, watching over the entire ordeal, was rocking in place with mirth, having seemingly forgotten his loathing of the girl at the rare sight of his lieutenant rendered speechless. "You've... recieved a wonderful gift my friend. Rejoice!" He sobbed with laughter while a distinctly puzzled looking Mya turned and launched herself out the window to new flurry of fireballs and arrows after saying that it was her pleasure.

Horus floated in the air atop the rocky spire, feeling the warm air push beneath his wings support him effortlessly. He was still in a good mood from his sister’s visit; they always seemed to get along well, a fact that seemed to puzzle all their other siblings. While they both seemed to share an even temperament Horus actually had a desire for the throne though he knew that he wasn’t ready to take it…yet. He thought that the reason why he had gotten along so well with Mya was that they both held little regard for their mother’s affection. While Mya simply held her own desires, ones that kept her aloof of the others who were vying for power and attention Horus had found it to be even dangerous. Currently the youngest living member of Mifra’s extended family he had found himself different than the other members of his family, his feathered wings a strange mix between his parents. He also found little control of any element other than wind, which he seemed to control like an extremity, but other powers, seemed unique. Constant bullying by the others had forged an unusual desire for solitude, but even that couldn’t make the hours pass more quickly. That’s when he met Mya. The reason that we could understand her was that he didn’t try to understand her. She did what she wanted, following her passions and ignoring everything else. Besides, if she could keep making artifacts like the ones she did no one really cared. If only they would stop having such side effects. He landed at the top of the spire, walking in to his small room, glancing at the tall bird perched on his desk. It gradually changed, its legs thickening, face returning to a humanoid shape. Horus looked at him and sighed, “What seems to be the problem now? I was looking forward to having some time off.” The creature glanced at him, only a minor amount of annoyance seeping from his body. “What do you call what you’ve been doing for the past two days? You met with your sister and didn’t touch ground until just now. Now, the advance warning you always seem to request is coming late. You’re not going to blame this one on me.” “Thoth, your problem is that you don’t ever like to relax.” Thoth straightened himself, blandly remarking “Such fun. Shall we discuss our character flaws at length or should be actually take care of business?” Thoth, despite having absolutely no sense of humor, was at least reliable, acting as the ego for the pair.
“Fine, what’s the problem. We’ve detected…a short in the barrier.”
Horus suddenly snapped to attention. Mya’s work had never let him down but, like her, had a tendancy to hold unexpected and undesired surprises. “A short? Part of the barrier has been broken through?”
“Yes, it seems to be located twenty miles to the sou…”
Thoth’s words were cut off with a sudden flash of movement as Horus rushed to a closet and belted on his sword. There was a sudden gust and a blur of black wings and he departed. Thoth moved slowly after him, muttering under his breath as wings sprouted from his back and he went after his master.
The town no longer existed, strewn rubble covered the body of fallen demons and blood wet the earth and Horus was strangely reminded of the scenes of some of his own…misadventures. A large horned demon, adorned with thick armor, carried a giant ax. He roared,
“Where is the maijin of this area?” Horus looked at him with contempt, saying, “Why do you want to know? I’m sure he’d be flattered by your attentions but I’m sure he has pressing matters. Is it important?” The demon tilted back its head and roared, finally saying, “I shall crush his skull with my bare hands and I will drink his blood and I will take his powers into mine and make a true Great Demon, not the pitiful kind he is. And I will take the sword, forged by the ” Thoth landed nervously and began “The maijin of this realm…” “Is right here.” Finished Horus, a serious expression finally crossing his face. “The one you’re looking for is right here.” The demon looked surprised and suddenly began laughing uproariously. “I knew that you were pathetic, but this even surprises me! A little man in wings is the form you took after your metamorphosis?” He took his ax and swung it downward at Horus’ head and there was a sound of metal meeting. The demon let out a quick gasp, an instant before the ax had hit there was no obstruction but now a sword, still sheathed, was resting at the nexus of the impact. With a sound the ax crumbled into scrap. Horus was immediately behind him and a fountain of blood spurted from a severed led. The demon let out a cry of pain and collapsed to the ground. “So this is the power” he murmured, “Of a Great Demon. You cut off my leg and you didn’t even draw you sword.” “This was nothing close to the power of a Great Demon.” He held up his unsheathed sword, which showed no sign of wear. “I had the maker of the weapon put a seal on it to contain my powers. My Great Demon abilities don’t emerge until it’s drawn.” He returned his sword to his belt. “For the likes of you, this is more than sufficient.” The air around his other hand was coated in thick blood, revealing a part of what looked like a sword, although it seemed to constantly be changing shape. Horus brought it down with a sudden swing, splattering the head of the creature, blood and bone flying out in all direction. Thoth surveyed the scene with distaste, calmly remarking “I didn’t think you would get so worked up over something like this. I mean, you alone seem to average destroying a village each year, and this isn’t the first time someone has sought to take your power.” Horus didn’t even glance at him before replying, “He knew Thoth. He knew about the sword. Someone told him about it and I know it wasn’t me.”
“Perhaps Mya mentioned it to someone. She could have forgotten that you asked her not to tell anything regarding you.”
“Perhaps.”

Mya toyed with her favorite amulet, musing in an unusually clear frame of mind that she probably shouldn't have given in to the urge to kill her father, blamed it on his favorite lieutenant, and then forged both of them into an amulet. Taking their power had made it ridiculously easy for her to make even the most powerful demons into artifacts, but she probably should have just kept their souls in a container rather than making them into an amulet whose function she had promptly forgotten upon its completion. Her father and mother had never really understood her fascination with artifacts, and her father had even tried to put her in a role as some common subordinate. That had interfered greatly with her passion for artifacts so she had quite simply killed him.
She hadn't felt anything in particular at the stunned lack of understanding on his face when his god-like power had simply been knocked aside by his seven year old daughter as if it were merely the strike of a fly rather than the Maou of Kaku. She had hardly noticed the flow of his power running into her as she ripped his soul from his shattered flesh and encased it in ice. She had been wondering over what kind of artifact to make out of him when his lieutenant had came in, a look of almost comical horror on his scaled features. She honestly didn't understand why he had gotten so worked up about it that he had struck at her. She had, of course, retaliated by using her favorite technique to char him from the inside out.
It had surprised her greatly when people had assumed that he had killed her father then left Kaku, but she had shrugged and quietly gone along with her mother to their new territory. Her mother had sensed her power and was never foolish enough to try to dictate terms to her, and so she had been pretty much left to her own devices for the last thousand years.
Upon finishing her reflections she looked around herself to find that she was surrounded by thousands of mutilated demons. "Who did this?" She wondered aloud, honestly never considering the fact that her defensive reflexes had once again brought about another slaughter. She rarely killed intentionally, for her subconscious mind was very good about processing and eliminating threats while she mused and formulated ideas for new artifacts. The various Majin had long since given up assassinating her, and had instead begun doing their best to make sure their domains looked 'boring' so that she wouldn't drop by.
Unfortunately for them her definition of 'boring' seemed to change quite often, sometimes several times a day, and so they had to endure the dubious pleasure of her regular 'visits'. Her tendency toward walking or flying through battlefields while muttering to herself and wiping both sides out without even looking up was considered to be something on the level of a natural disaster in Kaku. The Majin generally did their best to withdraw as many troops from their battle lines as possible when they heard she was approaching, but she always seemed to wander through the thickest part of the fighting. Overall, they had pretty much given up on trying to get around her.
She felt a prickle in the back of her mind that told her that someone was calling her through one of her telepathy amulets, :Who is it?
:It's me, your mother dear.
She was somewhat surprised to hear her mother calling her, for she was generally seemed quite relieved whenever Mya announced that she was leaving on one of her little 'trips', What do you need mother?
:Tell me dear, was there anything resembling a giant stone dragon in your storehouse? There seemed to be a strange note of panic in her mother's mental voice as she asked that.
:Why yes, I made it as a birthday present for you last year and I forgot to give it to you... Mya had truly enjoyed making that dragon, especially adding the lightning and acid breath features. As she recalled, she had put some other abilities into it, but she couldn't quite remember what they were.
:I'm just asking, but is there some way of stopping it once it starts moving? There was definitely a note of panic in her voice this time.
:Well... I don't recall building in any weaknesses, but I suppose if you froze it then hit it with something really heavy it would shatter.
:Thank you dear.
:You're welcome Mother. She cut off the connection.
Suddenly it occurred to her that she had failed to mention that if Simeon broke it, all the power stored in it would be unleashed in a single explosive burst, and she tried to contact her mother to tell her this. However, for some reason all she got was an immense sense of disbelieving rage. She shrugged and went back to muttering to herself as she walked through the corpse-littered field.

Sorry that it's been a while. Please enjoy.
Horus sighed and broke off trying to mentally contact Mya, when she was busy with something else it became impossible to reach her. It had been a month since the demon had wandered through his barrier and still, after exhaustive searching, had turned up next to nothing.
Perhaps, Horus thought to himself, it is the searching itself that makes me so angry.
He had denied himself the pleasures that he had become accustomed to as ruler of his own realm and now the clear sky seemed to be taunting him, knowing full well that he could not soar into the sky as he longed to. He let out a sigh and collapsed onto the ground out of frustration. It was ironic, he realized, that the perfect nature of the barrier hampered him when it came to receiving information of the outside world and could doom him. It was at that moment that he noticed a shadow flitting across the floor. This was not so unusual, except for the fact that there was no form to associate it with.
“Report.” Horus commanded the shadow with strange impunity. A head rose from the black form, eventually materializing into a small creature.
“I have checked all the other lands of the Majin and the same stories waited there for me at each. There have been several, albeit pitiful, attempts to take the lives other highly ranked demons. It seems only a matter of time before they are eventually successful though, each attack has been more serious than the last.” Said the small creature.
“Dismissed.” Horus said, trying to put on an air of nonchalance. Inside he was burning with curiosity and delight. This was certainly more interesting than being holed up here.
“Get in here Thoth!” he bellowed and the annoyed demon walked in. “I want to you to make the preparations for a trip. I’m leaving for a while, let’s see if I can’t find these hopeful bastards.”

Dalsverdr's realm was in many ways the most beautiful of all. From outside, it looked like a giant redwood forest, thousands of square miles in size. However, when one got closer, they could see animal-type demons of all types in constant motion, enacting the old predator/prey routine that was the rhythym of this particular realm.
On the edge of the forest, Mya saw a person she considered to be one of her best friends, Magurav. She flew down, the wind blowing past her face as she unfurled her wings to come in for a landing. She squealed in delight, and to the rather somber Magurav's dismay, immediately ran over and began petting him. She scratched him behind the ears and patted him on the head, while he endured as he always endured, in uncomfortable silence.
Strangely, he had never felt uncomfortable around her. She was rather easy to understand as long as you didn't look too deeply. She was childlike in her love for what she considered 'games' and she adored making artifacts for her favorite demons. Magurav's lance Shalfherd, which he wore strapped across his back in a long leather sheath had saved his life on more than one occasion on the battlefield. She had forged it and handed it to him on impulse over five hundred years previous, and he had accepted it dubiously, for she had already obtained a reputation for unusual 'surprises' hidden in her artifacts.
When he thrust with it, even the most powerful barriers shattered as easily as glass, and when he called on his water and wind abilities, he found them increased a hundred fold. It's major problem was that it had a mind of its own, and that mind liked to sing of all things. Not only that, it sang off-key and couldn't hold a tune in a bucket.
He sighed as she finally finished her ministrations, "What do you need Lady Mya?"
She pouted at the formal adress, "Aw, Maggie, there's no need for formalities between us. After all, you are my favorite dog."
Her insistence that he was just a weirdly colored dog-man demon had always irritated him slightly, but he didn't let it get to him. "Mya..."
She pouted again at his remonstrance, "All right, all right..." She pulled out a handful of gems from under her clothing and handed them to him. "These are the demon-stones that Dallie ordered last month." Demon stones were an absolute neccessity in Aflerdr, for they were the only type of artifact that the animal-type demons that made up most of the population of that domain could use effectively due to their lack of hands.
"Thank you Mya. Here is what you asked for." They usually made a trade like this two or three times a year. He handed her several lengths of soul-wood, wood from a rare tree that grew only in ground where thousands of human souls had been shattered. Dalsverdr was well known for keeping several such trees under his protection, and he was the only source for the wood in all of Kaku.
