Well, it looks like I've got some backpedaling to do.
I was doing some research and it turns out that the Ninja-To is thought to be completely inaccurate historically speaking. Ninja, apparently, did not use Ninja-To. The reason they wouldn't use them is because if they were to wield a weapon that was entirely unique to them, it would identify them immediately as Ninja, which is bad.
Further, the purported design and construction of the Ninja-To would not serve the purpose of Ninja, as it was supposedly poorly constructed. Instead, Ninja who carried swords often dressed as Samurai (as indeed many were) and they carried the traditional Daisho: the Katana and the Wakizashi.
Now, what do you think? If we come across research that tells us something like this, do we forsake the item in the game in the interest of historical accuracy. I mean, we're going for a bunch of finctional things, but do we perpetuate misconceptions by reinforcing things that sound plausible? If we let Ninja fly, players wouldn't believe real Ninja could fly, but they might believe the Ninja-To was actually used by Ninja.
What should we do? What pleases you?

Unique weapons?? It would be cool having a unique weapons where u design ur weapon, but its too hard. ( But i would vote for this--unique weapons).
Maybe there should be a page were the general history of ninjas are place so that people would know what is real from what is not.
No decision yet though ;D ;D ;D

design your own weapon, i like that and low levels should do this or not? well i like to make my own weapon and i try making weapons in other games but its just to hard? and how about the power of the weapon; that should depend on the level. <xxx]================> this is a cool sword

I think making ur own weapons is really hard, NEOguy. But there should be a choice of already classed weapons. Like in dot//hack anime, the game had twinblades (two weapon blades, really fast but weak attacks), blademasters(swords, not that big, normal damage, normal speed), longarms (spear or any staff weapons, first to do damage, gets less damage), heavyblade( really big swords, slow attacks, but huge damage), there is also a wavemaster in the show, but i dont think it is applicable to ninjas (maybe if the weapons are ninja scolls, or some tricks/magic)
Example: blue ninja, that is a twin blade. Some attributes would be added.
This is just an idea, if ur interested watch the show or play the game. Show is weird, the game in PS2 is great. OR read the storyline.

like dot//hack i got it but low levels should still do this. in dot//hack the lady with the big stick had to like play until a certain level i dont like that

Yeah, I don't think player-made items is in the stars for NinjaWars 2.
As for classed weapons, please read the sticky about the development. Classes at this point have been dropped and archetypes have taken over. Each archetype is a very different style of ninja: fighter, assassin, and spy. They will each have their own special items and weapons, as well as having access to universal weapons.
But at this point, there are no "Blue Ninja" to provide blue ninja only weapons.

Theoretically, a ninja could use any weapon, or item at his disposal, though some ninja had "trade mark" weapons, anything could be a weapon, even a stck.
How about blinding weapons to give you a free shot on your opponent?

Yeah, dirty tricks, using things in the environment...all of that is being looked at worked on. We're trying to build a system that will let us add all of these great items and objects into the game easily. We're on the case. Good discussion.

how about smoke bombs? Ninjas use smoke bomb to make their escape. So if a smoke bomb would be made, it should have the ability to protect u from harm for like 2 hours(attacks and items), not able to transfer items, and not able to be sighted.
Ever played Tenchu?, they can get like a cloak that would make unsusspecting guards un able to see him. I'm not sure about that, but that would be cool.

I think that smoke bombs would be better off used as a way to escape from a bad situation like being attacked by a stronger opponent or getting spotted by guards. As for the cloak idea, I've been tossing the idea of potentially allowing Ninja to use costumes to sneak into places, like dressing up like a salesman or waiter or something. Don't hold me to that though.

Hmm I would see that way of getting new skill is good. But perhaps the skills are limited to youre lvl so you dont get super high skills. Or something like you get ... skill points per lvl and you can spend em through youre own wish. That way you get plenty of different ninja' i would say.

;DWell, so far reading the posts, i've only seen states about defence and stregnth, well of course health. What about adding in more stats like speed, and any energy sorce to be able to use nijia technices sort of like mana in diablo, or magica in final fatasy that type of thing. Inteligence maybe for stealth use. I mean this is a basic game now and you r trying to create a more exciting game, though this is pritty fun now, so look at other rpg's and think of how their creators made things.
states that influnce the outcome of combate or sneak attacks and so on. add in weapon skill. the better your skill the better you are using that weapon in combat thus inflencing the outcome of combat right? Different weapons for different uses. nijia claws for climbing up things to sneak around, kunia and chain for long range combat stuff like that. it could work.

I'm a bit slow on this but..... why'd you want player-made items? You'll get items like the *censored* sword. I prefer to have legendary weapons, so I can say:"This is the weapon created at Mt. Centauro". A weapon with history....sweet. But I'd like to make it my own, slightly adjust it. So no need for player-made items.

how about augmenting your weapons or something i dont know if it has been discussed or not but augmenting an element or something to make it do a little more damage.

or what about making different weapons only able to be used by certain classes of ninjas. like a ninja claw for black ninja, a flame elemental sword for red and so on. thus it would make people think what kind of class they want to be in the begining depending on weapons, skills, technekis and other such things.

We won't be having ninja of different color in NW2, we will be having different archetypes: Spy, Assassin, Fighter. In that regard, each will have access to different skills, which in turn make it possible to use different items. But nothing magical on the items, not yet anyway.
