Here are some of the major features in NinjaWars 2, and where applicable, in comparison to the original NinjaWars.
- Archetypes
- Clans
- Character Advancement
- Plot
- Community
ArchetypesSeparate from classes, your archetype determines what kind of skills you have. The three archetypes you will have to choose from are
Spy,
Assassin, and
Fighter. These are the development names, and they might change to be more thematic.
Spies are the masters of stealth and deceit. They are master thieves, saboteurs, and dealers in information. They stalk their victims, infiltrate clan halls, and when no one is looking, they take what they want and vanish. If you're looking for the secret passage into a building, or to find out the weakness of a particular opponent, you'll want to hire a spy.
Assassins are deadly hunters. Nothing can save you once an assassin has targeted you. Assassins stalk their victims, discovering the best way to kill them, and then with deadly accuracy and cold nerves, executing them as they see fit. With the mastery of many stealthy and subtle weapons and poisons, assassins have a large menu of actions to choose from.
Fighters are masters of the various arts of combat. Using blades, dirty tactics, and the occasional smoke bomb, fighters strike and dodge in a deadly dance of competition. Fighters will have a large selection of weapons and other items to choose from as well as different combat skills and to learn and pit against each other.
ClansClans will be an integral part of game play. They will be one of the major targets of the Ninjas of the Spy Archetype. Clans will only be allowed to form if there is enough interest, so
there will be less one and two person clans. Clans will be able to build and maintain their own hall for protection. These halls will be location dependent, and therefore, a clan's influence will need to be spread beyond its birthplace if it is to be respected. If a clan has a hall in one town, they will need to leave a strong enough force behind to protect it while they send a force to build a new hall in another town and begin recruiting there.
Clan halls will be to be upgraded by clan leaders using money donated by the members. These upgrades could include towers, stronger walls, more guards, moats, and bridges. Each upgrade is designed to make it more difficult for Ninja to sneak in to the hall and wreak havoc.
Clans will be able to set up their own leadership, appointing members to different positions that provide different benefits. Leadership positions are a big responsibility and inactive leaders will cause their clan much disgrace.
Character AdvancementInstead of the simplistic kill point system of the original NinjaWars, Ninja will gain experience points based on the difficulty of the task they accomplish. As in real life, you gain experience whether you succeed or fail at your task, though maybe not the same amount of experience. Experience will be awarded for preparing for your major actions as well as the major actions themselves. Experience points will also not be awarded for easy tasks like attacking Ninja much weaker than you.
Each
archetype will have several base skills to start with. As the Ninja advance, they can make choices about where they want to focus their efforts. Ultimately, a Ninja could learn every skill for an archetype, if they're good enough.
Ninja will also put great weight on their
reputation. Different actions will weigh positively or negatively on a Ninja's reputation. Ninja will compete with others for reputation, as losing in battle to a Ninja will lower others' respect for you.
Clans will put great emphasis on the reputation of their members, as the clan will have a reputation to uphold as well.
PlotNinjaWars 2 will have a storyline! We have a writer on board and we've develop a story line that will take place as you play the game. The plot will change overtime and certain things about game play will be affected by the story, for example, if a specific building burns down at some point in the story, it will be unavailable for use until it is rebuilt. The rebuilding may be influenced by players, or may be dictated by the pre-written story. This is not decided.
CommunityCommunity will be much stronger in NinjaWars 2. We have been working on a great
chat room technology that's fast, looks good, has tons of features, and
requires NO plugins! Just an updated browser. We're also working on providing buddy lists, to see who's on when you're on, more features for mail, and integrated message boards that feature your Ninja's stats right in your posts!
