Hey all,
I'm working as fast as I can to get NinjaWars 2 up and running, but it's a pretty big project. I thought I'd take a break to ask you what you think of this idea I came up with.
I'm sure some of you here can remember when new features were added to the original game and bugs cropped up and had to be fixed and in it wasn't a good thing at all. Since the first bug I coded into NinjaWars, we've been working harder and harder at quality control, but with only a few developers, catching every bug is a large tasks which takes time and delays feature deployment.
So I came up with this idea. Everyone who plays NinjaWars 2 will also have access to the test server, where they can create characters. When we submit a new feature, it will hit the test server, and all the players will be notified through a news page. The players on the test server can bug test the hell out of the new feature and when they are satisfied that it's OK, they can approve it with a simple click. Then, once we get a certain number of approvals (say 30), we will push the new file to the live server.
If any player finds a bug in the new feature, they can click a reject button which instantly kills the feature on test and requires a developer to resubmit the feature. There will of course be places for players to put notes with their approvals and rejections so the developers know what is wrong.
I think this idea is pretty good, but I'd like to get your feedback on it. Would you participate in the testing process? Do you think others will? Is there room for abuse of this system that we've overlooked?
As always your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks for playing NinjaWars!
