Fill in the blank.
Here's a chance to see some of your ideas in the next iteration of Ninja Wars. I'm looking for any ideas you may have for skills and skill effects in the game. I know that may be difficult to conceptualize without knowing what exactly a "skill" is and how the combat system will work. So don't worry about how we'll implement something, just suggest away - if it works and we like it, we'll probably find a place for it.
Anything, whether it's inspired by moves kung-fu movies, ninja lore, or a Magic card, if there's any flavor concept or mechanical concept that you'd like to see or think would be cool, post it here.
Hopefully (no promises), as we move forward and finalize more things, we'll be able to share some of the skills with you, which will hopefully help to inspire even more ideas.

It's not exactly a skill but an idea for the battle system. What I would like would be that any color-, animal-, flower-, sun/moon-ninja would be able to learn every available skill by spending exp-points on them. Ofcourse this way you can't level up with that same exp after that. This way the user has to make a choise: level up or gain skills. Black skills would ofcourse cost less for a black ninja while a black ninja would have to pay more exp for a blue skill.
Also I don't like the fact that skills use turns. The should use MP or something like that. It would make the skills more usefull. At the moment I don't use my skills because it's more profitable to spend my turns on gaining killpoints. This makes the game less fun ofcourse. The "MP" Could refill with the turns for example but this way you can't use the "MP" for something else than spells

Don't worry, there'll be no shortage of skills for you to learn. Rest assured that no two ninja will be exactly alike. One thing I should clarify is that skills in NW2 are entirely different from skills in NW1. Rather than special "extras" like in NW1, skills will be the basic action in NW2. So, rather than simply selecting "attack," you'll be selecting a skill with which to attack. As such, you'll never have to make a decision about giving up kills to use skills.

stealing, forging weapons, weapon specific skills(flails, blades, spears, etc) stealth, climbing, hand to hand combat, spiritual (sensing opponents, "seeing" secret areas items etc), disguises (to hide your true identity). i would like to see merchant skills personally critical 1 hit kills poison smoke (for escape) thats all i can think of now. post more as I think of em.

Hmm Murm that does sound cool. But the skills really need to be worked out well. Because with higher lvls would come more skills but that way they would become invincible. If you have a high lvl ninja that can 1 hit KO you and after that just disguise to stay out of trouble. It would be no fun.
The skills are all really cool but there needs to be a good system to support it or else the lower lvls stand no chance of ever competing.
Oh and for skills perhaps some bribing skills or some sort of way to hire mercenaries. Stuff like that.

I really like the disguise idea, being able to mask your name, level, ect. If you were a high level, it would be fun to disguise yourself as a level 1 or something...then someone attacks you, and you reveal your true form...
Of corse, this would have to have a learnable counter-skill, like 'true seeing', eg. if your true seeing skill is...say 8, and an enemies 'mask identity' skill is...4, you can see through their disguise.

Still need ideas? I've got them! 1) Tornado: I've read that the combat system is going to be updated and maybe with an escape function -> tornado keeps the defender from fleeing OR I've also read that there is gonna be some sort of map? Use tornado to keep someone on the same square (if you work with squares on the map). 2) Deflection: Able to deflect a shuriken/multiple shuriken and a chance to reflect. 3) Corrode: Name says it, corrode a weapon or armour of the enemy. Making them more vulnerable to attacks. You should make certain skills more difficult to obtain than others, if you need more skills just let me now.

there were simple java-based games ninjas could challenge eachother on. like, chess? checkers? i dunno. put inventory or cash on the line? or just pride. utter pride.

That would be awesome, I dunno if I would vote for Java, maybe javascript, or flash. Also, the game should be Go... oooo! With maybe turtle shells for pieces. There should also be some sort of score card for bragging rights, maybe under the user profile.

Yeah, more casino games would be great. Not the thread for it. I hear you, move the convo to a new thread though. More skill ideas like the ones from Dashing Devil (thanks!)
